Agency Information |
The history of St. Mary Villa begins in the mid-nineteenth century in response to family and social disruption following the American Civil War.
St. Mary Villa operated as a residential orphanage until the mid 1970’s when family and social needs changed from alternative placement to family supportive services.
St. Mary Villa changed to become an educational child care provider to support families with employed parents and parents in school.
St. Mary Villa has successfully provided quality child care services for over 30 years. In the 1980’s St. Mary Villa joined other progressive programs to seek, support and achieve accreditation by the National Association of the Education of the Young Child as a sign of quality services. This tradition of commitment to quality and objective professional review continues by earning the “3 Star Rating” for the highest standard of compliance recognized by the State Department of Human Services. St. Mary Villa has also been a continuous recipient of United Way Outcome-Based Investments that are awarded on findings of measurable and documented results.
The service-business model of St. Mary Villa that emphasizes diversity in socio-economic status, race, ethnicity and religion has sustained the agency financially and programmatically through the years with full enrollments and resources.
Throughout the years St. Mary Villa has been motivated by the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church to respond to all children and families with love and care that supports them reaching their God given potential.
The mission, always derived from this motivation, is to support families by providing affordable, quality day care, after school care and educational programs in a safe, healthy, nurturing and multi-cultural environment, promoting intellectual, physical, social and moral development of the child.
St. Mary Villa is an incorporated Tennessee non-profit agency recognized by the United States Treasury and Internal Revenue Service as not subject to taxation and as a charitable organization to which donations are tax deductible.
St. Mary Villa is governed by a Board of Trust, appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Nashville and according to By-Laws adopted by the Board. The Board appoints an Executive Director who organizes an administrative team composed of child care and business professionals to implement the programs and services of the agency.
